Kathy Herron, CNM, MS has been a midwife since graduating from Columbia University in 1986 and is a contributor to our Ask a Birth Expert blog.
Most of her career has been in full-scope practice, working in a variety of hospital, clinic, and office settings in NYC and Westchester. In 2000, she created Full Circle Women’s Health, the area’s only independent, midwife-owned, private practice with hospital admitting privileges. In 2014, Kathy became a full-time assistant professor at the Midwifery Institute at Jefferson, a distance-learning midwifery program which confers degrees at the master’s level and offers the country’s first midwifery doctorate. She is now using her expertise and experience to nurture the next generation of midwives.
To accommodate this work, she has retired from the demands (and the joys!) of caring for women during pregnancy and birth. She maintains a part-time gynecology practice at PMA Midwifery at Harrison (formerly Full Circle Women’s Health), specializing in helping women who struggle with pelvic or sexual pain and dysfunction. Together with her colleague, a pelvic-floor physical therapist, they take a holistic and caring approach to the diagnosis and treatment of the many conditions that can contribute to this issue. She welcomes new and existing clients for routine gynecology or sexual health appointments.
