I grew up and still live just outside of Peekskill, and absolutely love everything about the Hudson Valley. There is plenty of art and culture to appreciate; from hiking to the farm-to-table restaurants to the music scene. NYC may make us famous, but the Hudson Valley is where New York gets its heart! My education and training... I graduated from SUNY Purchase in 2009 with a degree in media sociology. Keeping my mind and body fit by training in both yoga and martial arts for many years. I decided to expand upon my study of the body by attending Finger Lakes School of Massage in Mount Kisco, and got my NYS license in 2012. One of my favorite massage workshops I’ve taken is thai massage. It is such an amazing and dynamic form of bodywork that combines much of the stretching, breathing, and body mechanics I learned in yoga and ju-jitsu. It really feels like the perfect crossroad of all of my physical training. My backstory… After graduating from college I was very unsure of what I wanted to do. I have always been both a creative type and an active person. I had tried my hand at a couple different career paths, always open minded to any opportunity to learn or try something new. On a whim, I decided to visit FLSM and within 15 minutes of being in the massage world, in that healing environment, I knew that it wasn’t just something I wanted to do but something I wanted to BE. It combined so many of my existing physical interests while adding a new layer of biology, health, and philosophy. It just made perfect sense! I became interested in specifically prenatal work after a couple important women in my life gave birth. Each of these women are awesome and amazing for different reasons. Each of their birth experiences were very different. All of them miraculous beings of strength and resolve. Of all my gracious clients, I felt that the comfort and bodywork I was providing this community to be the most rewarding. I love being a Massage Therapist because... I feel true and genuine gratitude in a way you don’t feel in any other job. As an MT, there is a much warmer and more satisfying feeling of accomplishment. I love my job because I’m able to be independent and control my own practice and career. I love my job because there’s an endless amount to learn about the human body and spirit. My work style... My style of bodywork incorporates all aspects of my personality. I try to blend my knowledge of breathing and stretches with my personal philosophies to encourage calm and stillness in the body and mind. There is a certain lightheartedness I bring to both my attitude about life and my practice. Relief of tension is equally physical and mental, and I believe positive energy is contagious. My passion... Is to truly help people. I like to change perspective. I like to influence ideas. Whether it’s a physical shift, mental thought process, or personal point of view. Changing or shifting your perspective allows your body and your mind the space to flex and grow. This movement and flexibility is integral to avoiding stagnation. When I am not massaging I am… Constantly searching for more skills and hobbies to learn. I love to tinker and make things and crafting is my other half. I found a similar grace and beauty of movement as massage in traditional calligraphy. It is a beautiful old artform that I’ve been practicing and have had the pleasure of working on a few wedding projects. I also enjoy sewing, writing, and am a huge movie buff! |
