ABOUT RACHEL
I'm from... Bedford originally, but now I live in Harrison with my two boys and husband. My education and training... RYT-200 through Ohra Wellness Comprehensive Pilates Certification through Club Pilates My backstory… I wasn’t always healthy. In fact, I remember spending most of high school and college living off of cookies, curly fries, and Red Bull. I would constantly be in and out of doctors with chronic sinus infections and horrible psoriasis. After college my mother decided it was time for me to change and signed me up for the RYT-200 certification. Mothers... they really are always right. I instantly fell in love with yoga as an expressive movement and outlet. It jumpstarted my journey back to health. I became interested in boxing, body building, and the art of shaping the body through exercise. I met my husband, a personal trainer and boxing coach, around this time. My husband heard of this ‘cool thing’ called a pilates reformer that was rumored to be an exceptional core strengthening exercise. Being that I had a background in dance, cheer, yoga, bodybuilding, and boxing I found the reformer and all pilates based exercises to be the best of all these forms of movement bundled into one apparatus. I became certified as soon as I got the chance. I love being an instructor because... I love creative movements, I find I express myself well by coordinating a dance like flow and applying them to the body to shape and strengthen it. I enjoy sharing this with others as well as allowing them to become creative within their own body. My work style... Playful and encouraging! My passion... I came to exercise and functional movements as a way to overcome my health issues, since then I’ve continued to struggle but overcome many obstacles and I’ve always had yoga and pilates to fall back on as a source of comfort with a slow gentile flow when I’m feeling down or a strong powerful vinyasa or pilates flow when I need to find strength in myself. I’ve learned that I am limitless in what I can do when my mind and body are connected as one. When I am not teaching I am… Running after two growing boys, being a student in any functional movement studio I can pop into, cooking, shopping, or relaxing at home with a good book and a big cup of tea. |
