ABOUT SOPHIA
Sophia Medina: Birth & Postpartum Doula and Lactation & Feeding Specialist [email protected] www.auspiciousbeginningsdoula.com (508) 560-5525 I'm from... Born and raised in Massachusetts but I’ve been living in the Bronx for 7 years now (NYC for 12)! My education and training...
My backstory… While I was pregnant with my older son, I came to understand how truly divine and sacred the journey to parenthood is, and I developed a deep respect for procreation and all that goes with it. His birth went completely differently than what I had envisioned and was very hard, but my doula was incredible throughout! She helped me feel heard and seen, and completely held at a time when I was my most raw and vulnerable. After her invaluable support I knew I wanted to do the same work of holding space for folks during their childbearing years. I love being a doula because… People are allowing me to be present at one of the most tender and transformative moments of their lives and it is such an honor, and a truly humbling experience. I love seeing my clients achieve their goals and push through the challenges of labor even when they think they can’t. And then they come out the other side a different person, a stronger team. There’s nothing sweeter than witnessing the birth of a baby and of a new family. My work style... I’m all about education, because knowledge is power and at no time is that more true than during labor. I believe that if you understand and are able to give true informed consent for every procedure during your birth, you can have a positive experience regardless of how your baby is born. As your doula, I’m here to help you navigate your questions and fears, and to create the space for you to make decisions you feel good about. I also make sure to support partners, and help them understand what their role is based on their comfort level. I’m essentially your tour guide into laborland! My passion… Well, I’ve always loved babies! I was a babysitter and nanny forever before my own kids were born, and when I saw the birth side, I was hooked! Witnessing a birth is the best high I know of, and that first cry is pure magic. I love seeing the connection between baby and parent and the instinctive way they work together. Mostly I love knowing that I’ve helped ease your journey through possibly the hardest thing you’ll ever do. When I am not doula-ing I am… Wandering around in nature with my two boys, probably barefoot. I also enjoy crafting, silversmithing, teaching cloth diapering and gardening. |
