My backstory While I have decades of experience supporting new mothers and their families, I got so inspired helping a friend care for her newborn that I decided to pursue this calling more formally. Having such an immediate impact just by doing what I love – nurturing others – got me hooked! I love being a doula because... Many new families, especially women, are not as supported as they need to be at this vulnerable stage in their lives. There is little empathy or practical help offered as our “villages” get smaller and farther apart. The 4th trimester can be a lonely time. I’m so grateful to be able to step into the gap and provide evidence-based support at this special time. My support style.... I really like using Gary Chapman’s book The 5 Love Languages. There is a quiz that helps you identify how you feel most loved & appreciated. This knowledge helps your family and friends know how to show up for you during this time and going forward. My philosophy is to “be like water” - flexible and responsive to your needs in the moment. We may have decided together that I would make some freezer meals for your family at my next visit, but what you really need when I arrive is an impartial ear and a shower. My passion.... Is providing nurturing, support, and tools as you come into your own as parents, eventually working myself out of a job. I love learning new skills to keep my passion alive! When I am not supporting new families… I enjoy spending time with my husband and two dogs. As new foster parents, we’re navigating the world of offering a safe space for vulnerable youth. I love to cook, travel, and play volleyball. |
