FAQs
About Prenatal Yoga
Q. This is my first time practicing any kind of yoga, ever! What should I expect?
A. Expect a non-judgmental, kind environment where you can work at your own pace. Many of our students are beginners to the practice. You will be encouraged to honor your body and to rest and take breaks whenever you need to!
Q. When should I start a prenatal yoga practice?
A. Check with your medical provider if you are clear to exercise. Some women decide to wait until the second trimester. Those with an active lifestyle or previous yoga experience sometimes start earlier.
Q. I have been practicing yoga for years. Can’t I just continue with my regular yoga class?
A. Sure you can, but what a lot of women like about our program is that the poses that we work on are very specific to pregnancy. Our focus is to open the hips, groin and pelvis to encourage good positioning of your baby and help you have an easier birth. There is also an emphasis on exploring your body as you experience physical changes, connecting with your baby, and getting to know other expecting mamas.
Q. Should I bring my own mat?
A. We have mats, blankets and blocks available for your use. You're always welcome to bring your own if you'd like.
Q. How should I dress?
A. Comfortable attire that is easy to move in.
Q. What else should I bring?
A. A water bottle and perhaps a snack if you think you will need one.
About Mama and Baby Yoga
Q. How old does the baby have to be to start?
A. Babies are welcome at any age but Mama should be cleared for exercise. Most Mamas start between 6-8 weeks postpartum.
Q. What if my baby cries? Will it disturb the class?
A. The class is casual and everyone understands that all the babies will take turns crying and fussing at different times.
Q. What if I need to feed or change my baby’s diaper?
A. No problem! You will just pause your yoga to take care of your baby’s needs.
Q. Is the class challenging?
A. Everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace.
